Dragoncon 2003 Sunday |

| The first thing on Sunday
we had the TORN LOTR Costume panel. Since Kev had to drop
me off with the bucket of armor, my friend Jonathan
helped me carry the armor to the panel and then get into
it in front of the entire crowd. Ian Smith's
report on Comic Con in San Diego describes something similar, but I'm sure
this was much, much less organized... and THEY had the
REAL stuff. The panel featured Shan's Legolas jerkin, Zippy's RIng Wraith armor, my Haldir armor and DarthGoat's Orc Skin. I will have some notes up on that later... but while I had the camera and intended to have someone video tape it, I forgot to ask anyone!! Zippy did get some pictures of me getting dressed and the photo shoot afterwards. Zippy's PIctures 166-178 The panel went well, standing room only and it seemed we encouraged a lot of people to try their hand at armor and what not. After the panel we went in the hall, posed for more pictures with the others and then my buddy Art, along with Kev, Jonathan and Jose/Elrond all helped me to duct tape, string and strap the armor together and on tighter since it was already starting to fall off! I had never worn it before and really had no idea what I was doing... or how heavy it would be. Here's a cartoon CRIZ drew for me about this experience....
Then, on our way over to the One Ring table... guess who we ran into again. The bloody pirate! He loved the armor and again, we had to pose for pictures... We treked all the way back to the Hyatt to find "Mrs. Jack 'Wade' Sparrow" at the Lexx table, (a sci-fi show I knew nothing about before this trip and now know more than I ever wanted to know *L* ) But she had just gone off to a panel, so he hung out with us for a while at TORN table... when who should appear, but another Jack Sparrow!! It was none other than Gen from the POTC costume list! Here are a frew shots of us standing around TORN table. An Aragorn/Haldir moment. And a group of four that got lots of attention. As you can see, my cloak kept slipping. Here's another cartoon:
Here's a picture of my friend Dan'a who went as Luthian standing by Boromir TheOneRing.net has alot of pictures of us as well. If I did this right, you should be able to click on the picture and go to the TORn page for the bigger view. Then, along came a Balrog, and I had to take it on... This costume had air compression controlled wings. It was awesome. I did a long photo shoot with Art, as did Kevin in his Boromir. But here are the only picture I've gotten from that set yet. The other is me with a great Xena costumer. As we were leaving to go back over to the Hyatt, I had to take this picture of spidey at a payphone. It just perfectly captures the surealness that is Dragoncon. After getting out of the armor again for a nice quiet dinner, we headed back to suit up. Kev and I got to watch Art carefully put on his primadonna Sandtrooper armor It took him
45 minutes to look this good. Then we met up with the Fellowship and the picture taking was insanity. Here's only a few that were taken that night. Some with our camera, most with others.
The following are from Sith Vixen's site. If you would like the big versions, she has them.
The following is my friend Dan'a's dress as posted on TheOneRing.Net We are looking for photos taken of her that night in this dress with Captain Jack (Wade) Sparrow. If you have one or know where one is, please email me! Here are two more cartoons... The Armor was so heavy... much heavier than I expected:
THANKFULLY I didn't loose anything... But this would have been very likely had I not had all the tape on:
Thanks to
CRIZ for her wonderful drawing abilities and sense of
humor! We have no pictures from Monday, as our camera ran out of memory on Sunday night. But we did run into Wade one last time and he let us know that he took first place in the fan voted on costume contest!! This picture I lifted from CommonGrounds website and is by far the best picture of Captain Jack (Wade) Sparrow that I've seen yet... complete with his much deserved award ribbons even. Click to go to Captain Jack (Wade) Sparrow's Site The trip home was long; we were very tired and I fell ill. But as much fun as we had, we were more than glad to get back to our little hobbit and elf. |
