Monday - The Baddies

photo by Steph art by Criz
Each day in the Pelenor fields they wrote what was happening and what was next.
Criz drew a little cartoon of Richard making up an orc, and I had to get a photo.
Click the picture to see the full sign.
PS, I don't know who the third person is...

On Sunday Espen and I decided to go ahead and dress up for the occassion. Actually... I thought he was going to dress up and he wasn't, and when I saw he wasn't, he felt bad for me and decided to anyway. What a nice guy. *heheh* Espen's portion gave great insight into how he choose his fabrics and sewed the details. A lot of hand sewing... it is amazing how the more we sew, the easier it is to accept some things have to be done by hand... patience does grow when you see the results. I gave tips on how to choose a target costume, take aim and fire.

Art Workshop
Sandro Kopp

Sando's art class was phenominal. He explained how it is his knowledge and experience that he uses when teaching, rather than a detailed lesson plan. The participants admitted to no formal training and Sandro indicated that he was very impressed with their work - (as was I walking around obsering). Sandro first asked us to use straight flowing lines to build architecture of the subject. Then the exercise was repeated with curved lines, and finally with 'poly-scribbles'. The idea was to slowly build using light lines first and pressing (or switching to softer pencils) as the drawing progressed for darker and more certain lines. After the short 3-10 minute exercises, we took a break, and then moved on to a 1/2 an hour drawing. Asking who did and didn't desire personal instruction, Sandro walked around and gave his input. Even though I have formal instruction and even have taught drawing, I learned quite a bit from this 2 hour class.
This is my finished 30 minute drawing. I had to darken the scanning process on all three of the drawings I did for the class - because I only had a 4H pencil with me. This is a drawing I've done since I've been home - of Sandro (if you can't tell) I used a 4H pencil drawing the 'architecture' and then went in with an ebony soft lead to scribble and shade. This is another drawing I did of the Tower Bridge of London. We had been walking around all day on Thursday and finally I said I just needed some time to rest - and drawing was very relaxing.

I went to Anke and Christine's Fiction writing panel and found it very helpful. They told us about their own experiences in writing - how to get over writers block - and gave us several exercises. We wrote on the spot in 5 minutes!! And then read our work out loud. GREAT FUN! Stephanie took over the Costume Workshops this year and had really cool fabric paint embroirdery to practice while making cards and pins.

Alex joined her teaching people how to do chain maille.

I was unable to attend Ian, Lynette, Trevor or Zainab's talks. However, I did talk to Zainab in the TS green room and was amazed at the work she put into the course.
