The Snow Queen
from Narnia

Dress - Crown - Stole - Scepter

I made the pattern from scratch after trying to modify several and getting nowhere close to what I wanted From the front I used 2 layers of mat velvet and a layer of quilted fabric for stiffening. It closes in the back with a zipper.
I practiced the ice look by following the patterns of real ice I used turquoise dye and just painted it on with a paint brush The lace layer is gauze. I decided I liked the look, but I was going to have to rip it up considerably I did the test on the three layers of fabric so I could also test to see if it was stiff enough. (I did this test before I made the white dress above)
Here is the first part of the process. I started with the back, in case I made any mistakes. This was great fun! I used photos I had printed of the Queen's dress and the ice. You can see all my dye cups. Here is a close up shot
When I got towards the top I didn't go as dark, I new I wanted a shaded look. It dried much lighter.   There it is with some foxes attached. *heh*
Here is how I ripped the gauze - took a while. I'm holding heat n' bond glue here Lay the gauze down and iron.

It sticks really well and leaves it even stiffer. I layered a couple times towards the top.

Here is the finished layer of lace

To get an even frostier look

I added sparkle fabric paint

I may add more... but I ran out!
